CLEAN EXCEL DATA · CLEAN MY DATA
Clean Excel data without doing 200 find-and-replaces.
When data comes from somewhere else — a CRM export, a partner's spreadsheet, an old report — it arrives messy. Mixed date formats. Currencies you can't pivot on. A stray header row in the middle. Outliers nobody flagged. Clean My Data fixes all of it. You review every change before it's applied.
Free tier — 30 audits/month — no card required.
Cleaning data manually is the most boring part of the job
Anyone who has ever inherited a 5,000-row Excel file knows the workflow: scroll through every column, eyeball the inconsistencies, find-and-replace, repeat. By column three you've made an undo-chain mistake. By column six you've given up and shipped the data "as-is".
The right answer is: a tool detects every inconsistency, proposes a canonical fix, and lets you accept or reject each one. You spend the time on the judgment calls (what should the canonical date format be?) instead of the mechanical work (replacing 200 instances of "Jan 5" with "2024-01-05").
How Clean My Data works
- 1
1. Upload the messy file
Drop an .xlsx or .csv. SaferSheets scans every column and infers the canonical format it's supposed to be in.
- 2
2. Review proposals column by column
Every column with detected issues gets a proposal — date column → ISO format, currency column → standardize to USD, etc. Each has a before/after preview.
- 3
3. Accept, reject, or override
Accept the proposals that look right. Reject the ones that don't. Type your own canonical value when neither option fits.
- 4
4. Apply + download
Click Apply. SaferSheets produces a cleaned-up copy. The original file is never modified.
What Clean My Data fixes
Twelve common patterns of data messiness, detected automatically. You decide which fixes get applied; the tool just surfaces the candidates.
Mixed date formats
"Jan 5 2026", "01/05/2026", "2026-01-05" all in one column. Proposal: pick a canonical format (defaults to ISO YYYY-MM-DD) and convert every cell to match.
Mixed currencies and number formats
"$100", "100 USD", "100,00 €" mixed in one column. Proposal: standardize to a single currency notation or numeric value.
Header rows stuck in the middle
A copied-in section repeats the header row mid-data. Detected and proposed for removal (or merge if it's actually a sub-section header).
Stray text in numeric columns
"n/a", "TBD", "—", blank strings — anywhere your data should be numeric. Listed with a proposed replacement (null, 0, or last-known value).
Outliers worth flagging
Values more than 5 standard deviations from the mean, or values that break the pattern by orders of magnitude. Flagged for review, not auto-removed — you decide.
Inconsistent boolean / categorical values
"yes/no" mixed with "Y/N", "true/false", "1/0", "sim/não". Proposal: pick a canonical pair and convert.
Leading / trailing whitespace
Cells with invisible spaces that break exact-match formulas and joins. Trimmed automatically (with the option to skip).
Mixed case where it shouldn't be
"London", "london", "LONDON" in a city column. Standardized to title-case (with override).
Frequently asked questions
Will Clean My Data modify my original file?
+
Never. The original .xlsx is uploaded, analyzed in memory, and the corrected version is generated as a NEW file. The original is held during the audit session and discarded after. You download the cleaned copy; if you want to overwrite the original, that's your manual step.
What if I disagree with a proposed fix?
+
Reject it. Nothing is applied unless you click Accept. You can also type your own canonical value — for example, if the tool proposes converting all dates to ISO format but you want them in DD/MM/YYYY, type that as your canonical and apply.
Does it work on .csv files?
+
Yes. CSV files go through the same data-quality analysis. The corrected output stays as .csv (no automatic conversion to .xlsx unless you ask). Data formats, outliers, headers, stray text — all detected.
Can I clean a Google Sheet directly?
+
Yes — pick the sheet via the Google Drive Picker. Clean My Data reads via the Sheets API and produces a corrected copy you can save back to Drive (as a new sheet, not over the original).
Will it handle large files (10,000+ rows)?
+
Free tier audits files up to 10 MB; Pro raises that to 50 MB. Most 10,000-row workbooks come in well under 10 MB. The clean-up analysis runs per column, so the per-row time is roughly constant — bigger files take proportionally longer to scan but the workflow stays the same.
