About the product

What is SaferSheets?+

SaferSheets is an audit suite for Excel and Google Sheets. You upload a workbook, we scan it with one of eight specialised tools (formula doctor, clean my data, hardcode detector, consistency scanner, and more), and you get a per-cell report with one-click fixes plus an option to download a corrected copy.

Who is SaferSheets for?+

Finance teams, accountants, FP&A analysts, ops leaders, and consultants — anyone who lives in spreadsheets and can't afford a silent rounding bug to make it into a board pack. Our beta users include startup CFOs, M&A analysts, and university lecturers teaching financial modelling.

How is this different from Excel's built-in error checking?+

Excel flags syntax errors and circular references. SaferSheets flags everything Excel can't see — typed values overriding a formula column, percent columns mixing 5 and 0.05, sibling sheets whose template drifted, charts secretly linked to other workbooks, headers that mean the same thing but read differently across tabs. Plus we explain why each finding matters in plain English.

File formats and limits

What file types do you support?+

.xlsx, .xlsm, and .csv up to 50 MB on paid tiers (10 MB on free). Google Sheets support is on the roadmap — for now, export to .xlsx and upload that.

Do you modify my original file?+

No. Every tool reads your file, produces a corrected copy as a new .xlsx, and leaves the original untouched in storage. You always have a clean rollback point. The corrected file is named '{original} - Fixed by SaferSheets.xlsx'.

What if my workbook has macros (.xlsm)?+

We accept .xlsm files but our tools operate on cells, formulas, and structure — not the VBA. The macro code is preserved untouched in the output. We don't execute macros during scanning.

Security and privacy

Is my data secure?+

Files are uploaded over TLS, stored encrypted at rest, isolated per user account, and only readable by you. Database row-level security means no other user can ever see your runs or findings — even our admin tooling respects the user_id filter.

Do you train AI models on my data?+

No. We use third-party LLMs (OpenAI's GPT-4o-mini) for narrative explanations, but only structured scan output is sent to the model — never raw cell contents. Your data never enters anyone's training pipeline.

Can I delete my data?+

Yes. Every run has a trash icon that cascades deletion through scans, findings, and storage objects — the file is genuinely gone, not soft-deleted. Account-level export and full deletion is one email to support@safersheets.com.

Are you GDPR compliant?+

Yes. We're based in the EU, host data in the EU, and follow GDPR by default for every user regardless of where you live. A formal DPA is available for paid customers — email contracts@safersheets.com.

Tools and findings

What's the difference between Pre-Send Audit and Formula Doctor?+

Pre-Send Audit is a broad health check — score, issue counts, action plan. Formula Doctor goes deeper on formulas specifically: it finds broken or risky ones, proposes a fix for each, and produces a corrected workbook once you've reviewed the changes.

What's the difference between Hardcode Detector and Consistency Scanner?+

Hardcode Detector finds typed numbers that overrode a formula region (the marquee 'someone retyped a cell and broke the calculation' case). Consistency Scanner finds drift across regions that look uniform — different header labels for the same column on sibling sheets, percent columns mixing 5 with 0.05, sibling sheets that drifted in structure. They're complementary lanes.

What does Break External Links do that Excel doesn't?+

Excel's Edit Links → Break Links button often leaves phantom links you can't find — typically in chart series, hidden defined names, or external link package parts buried inside the .xlsx ZIP. SaferSheets strips all of those at once and produces a clean, self-contained workbook.

Will the tool ever modify a cell I didn't ask it to?+

No. Every fix is per-finding accept/reject. We never auto-apply changes you haven't reviewed.

Pricing and billing

What does it cost?+

Pricing is credit-based. One credit covers a small audit (workbook up to 5 MB). Bigger files cost 3 credits (5–25 MB) or 8 credits (25–50 MB) per audit. Pick a monthly plan with a credit allowance (Free / Pro / Pro Plus), or top up with a $9 / 50-credit one-off pack whenever you run out.

Why credit-based instead of unlimited?+

Two reasons. First, it makes the price fair: a 50 MB workbook costs us 8x the compute of a 5 MB one, so it costs you 8x the credits — light users aren't subsidising heavy users. Second, it works for occasional auditors: if you only run audits a few times a year, a pay-as-you-go credit pack lets you skip the subscription entirely.

How many credits per audit?+

Files up to 5 MB cost 1 credit. Files 5–25 MB cost 3 credits. Files 25–50 MB cost 8 credits. Compare Workbooks counts as two audits because it parses two files (charged separately per the table). All other tools charge once per run.

Do credits expire?+

Monthly subscription credits reset at each billing cycle and don't roll over. Pay-as-you-go credits last 12 months from purchase and stack on top of any monthly allowance — they're consumed last, so you don't lose them by accident.

Can I top up if I run out mid-month?+

Yes — buy a $9 / 50-credit pack at any time. Credits are added to your account instantly and consumed only after your monthly allowance is used up.

Do I need a credit card to try it?+

No. Sign in to use the Free tier — no card, no trial timer. You can upgrade to Pro or Pro Plus whenever the monthly allowance isn't enough, or top up with a $9 credit pack.

Can I switch plans later?+

Yes. Upgrades take effect immediately and prorate credit allowance for the rest of the month. Downgrades take effect at the end of the current billing period. You keep access to anything you uploaded under the old plan.
